Position: Full-time Property Maintenance Technician - Springbank Catholic Family of Parishes Primary Work Location: St. John the Divine Parish, 390 Base Line Road West, London, Ontario. Travel to and work at St. Geoge Parish – 1164 Commissioners Road West, London, Ontario is required. Commitment: 37.5 hours per week. The standard days and hours of work are Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (30 minute daily unpaid lunch). Flexibility in schedule, based on business needs, for occasional work during evenings or weekends is required. Compensation: Expected salary range: $22.00-$25.00 per hour. Placement within this range is commensurate with relevant industry experience, qualifications (education, skills) and/or professional designations. POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Business Manager, the Springbank Catholic Family of Parishes Property Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the building’s operating systems, overseeing church grounds, facility upkeep including minor repairs and managing volunteers for maintenance tasks. The Property Maintenance Technician collaborates with parish ministries/groups using the church facilities and works closely with other staff.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Ensure all facilities, equipment, and mechanical/electrical systems—such as heating and cooling—are operational and well-maintained.
Perform general repairs and preventative maintenance, including minor carpentry, painting, drywall patching, plumbing repairs, furniture and fixture repairs, door and lock adjustments, and other handyperson-related duties.
Identify major repair needs for review with the Manager.
Respond to building emergencies, alarms, and after-hours security issues as required.
Clean and maintain all church buildings, including offices, meeting rooms, washrooms, common areas, and exterior entry points.
Perform routine and/or annual cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, garbage and recycling removal, window cleaning, carpet cleaning, floor refinishing, etc.
Maintain an adequate inventory of cleaning, washroom, and parish supplies (e.g., candles, wine, kitchen items).
Perform snow removal and apply de-icing agents to sidewalks and emergency exits; coordinate snow removal contractors.
Set up and take down tables, chairs, and meeting rooms for events in coordination with administrative staff.
Arrange service calls with external contractors (e.g., plumbers, electricians, HVAC technicians) as approved.
Perform additional related cleaning, maintenance, and event support duties as assigned.
Complete other duties of a similar nature as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or acceptable equivalent in Ontario.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant and related work in building and property maintenance, including knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems and preventative maintenance.
Prior experience in the areas of: drywall repair, painting, plumbing, landscaping, general mechanical and/or electrical maintenance is an asset.
Professional, pleasant, courteous and welcoming disposition.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Works well independently with minimum supervision as well as within a team.
Responds promptly to Parish needs.
Good attendance and punctuality.
Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
Knowledge of health and safety requirements and standards applicable to building maintenance.
Knowledge on stripping, waxing and buffing floors and any chemicals and equipment used for this process is an asset.
Willingness to support the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church, the Diocese of London and the Springbank Catholic Family of Parishes.
A police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate.
