Marking the opening of Catholic Centennial Week the formal reopening of St. Peter’s Cathedral was held on Sunday, September twenty-sixth. The Cathedral was closed for 18 months to complete and beautify the interior space. The Cathedral’s interior was also upgraded with new plumbing, electrical and interior heating systems to meet the standards of the time. The redecoration of the sanctuary, side chapels, transepts and nave incorporated elaborate art installations, carved wood finishings, new stained-glass windows and new Stations of the Cross. To compliment the brilliant features of the updated Cathedral was a Cassavant organ placed in the choir gallery.
