Catholic health care has grown into the world’s largest non-government provider of health services providing care and services to millions of Canadians each year.
Over 400 years ago, Catholic women of faith laid the foundation for today’s health system, driven by audacious bravery and a deep desire to live the healing ministry of Jesus.
Within our Diocese we are blessed to have several Catholic health care organizations and organizations who serve as their sponsor and owner.
St. Joseph's Health Care Society Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1993, St. Joseph’s Health Care Society carries forward the tradition of compassionate care.
The Society is the proud sponsor and owner of hospices, hospital sites, mental health, long-term care, and more, working alongside local community Boards of Directors to strengthen the identity, mission, values, and ethical foundations of Catholic Health Care.
St. Joseph’s Health Care Society is also an investor, builder, partner, and champion of initiatives that support the health and well-being of communities across the region.
Catholic Health International Inspired by the Founding Sisters, Catholic Health International (CHI) aspires to live the health mission of Jesus, through our communities of care, serving all people with compassion, hope and love. CHI was created in 2001 as a corporation with the purpose to accept sponsorship responsibility continuing the care of the Religious Hospitallers of Saint Joseph, the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception, the les religieuse Filles des Jésus and the Les Religieuses de Notre-Dame-de-Sacré Coeur, who cared for the most vulnerable and marginalized.
