Almost four (4) million people have fled Ukraine to Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and Moldova. Many are asking how they can assist them. In addition to praying for the situation, the following are the current potential options to assist:

• Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel Path: This path the Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has put in place is the fastest, safest, and most efficient way for Ukrainians to come to Canada. For further information on this program, click here. At this time, there are no other refugee resettlement programs that would respond better than the Canada- Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel.

• Ontario Pathways: Ontario’s Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development, Monte McNaughton reinforced on March 15 the premier's promise of a fast-track Ukrainian refugees to the province. More than 30,000 jobs have been made available for Ukrainian refugees who come to Ontario.To apply or find more information about the Ontario Provincial Nominee Program Now Prioritizing Ukrainian Applicants, please click here.

• Hosting a Ukrainian Family: We have received a number of inquiries from those who expressed a desire to host a Ukrainian family travelling to Canada. Also, the Diocese has in mind a shelter that might be used in case of need. We are currently in discussions with the Ukrainian Catholic and Orthodox churches to explore the needs in that order and how this would work.

• Refugee Resettlement: In addition to the Canada- Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel Path, we expect IRCC to put in place other refugee pathways for people feeing Ukraine. Once other refugee resettlement pathways will be established, the Diocese as Sponsorship agreement Holder will be ready to sponsor under our four (4) traditional categories of refugee sponsorship described here.
