Assumption University
Tracing its origins to 1857, Assumption University is one of the most historic Catholic institutes of higher learning in Canada. Originally founded by the Jesuits, Assumption is now affiliated with the Congregation of St. Basil (Basilian Fathers). Assumption began as a college in the classical French style, became a comprehensive provincial university, and since 1963 has been federated with the University of Windsor.
Assumption offers both graduate and undergraduate courses. The Graduate Diploma in Catholic Studies is a five-course credential, which is seen as a hiring asset by eight Catholic school boards in Ontario. It also has pathways to degrees at both Canadian and American universities. Assumption University and the University of Windsor offer undergraduate courses in a host of areas, including science and religion, cyber-ethics/AI and ethics, the Abrahamic faiths, and the Holocaust. Assumption also has a dynamic campus ministry program that provides students with opportunities for spiritual, social, and educational growth. One of its longest traditions is the Christian Culture Series that was founded in the 1930s. The series culminates each year with the coveted Christian Culture Series Gold Medal awarded to individuals who are exponents of Christian ideals in their daily lives. Assumption is also home to the endowed Stephen Jarislowsky Chair in Religion and Conflict. The chairholder conducts cutting-edge research, teaches innovative courses, and engages in interfaith and ecumenical dialogue within the community. Each year, Assumption University hosts a series of popular events, including an Interfaith Prayer Service in September, a Red Mass in October, an Ecumenical Prayer Service for Christian Unity Week in January, a Black History panel in February, the Fr. Joe Quinn Social Justice Series in March, and a Juneteenth event. Assumption continues to honour its motto of teaching goodness, discipline, and knowledge as it approaches its 170th anniversary in 2027.King's University College
King's University College is a Catholic educational institution affiliated with The University of Western Ontario (Western). Founded in 1954, the College provides general and honours degree programs in the liberal arts, social sciences, and social work, and a master's degree in social work. Sponsored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of London, the College is a community of some 3,000 Canadian and 270 international students, 167 full-time and 96 part-time faculty, staff, and professional and administrative officers. It is renowned as a centre of teaching excellence positioned in the top rank of institutions of higher learning in Canada for the quality of its teaching faculty. Not only do its faculty teach remarkably well, but their scholarship continues to enhance King's reputation as one of Canada's first-class undergraduate colleges.
