POSITION SUMMARY: Diocesan Youth Camp Counsellors are responsible for enthusiastically delivering Catholic leadership curriculum for the Church Day Camps, Teen Retreats and Youth Leadership Training days. Youth Camp Counsellors are responsible for preparing, coordinating, and leading activities in small groups, as well as participating in and assisting in the delivery of whole camp/retreat activities. Counsellors are provide participants with the support they need to develop personally and spiritually during their time at the day camps, retreats and/or training days.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Primary Duties:
Lead small group breakout sessions
Inspire discussion and participation in a creative and fun manner
Collaborate effectively with other counsellors, Supervisors and/or Camp Coordinators
Ensure all participants safety and wellness
Support the senior staff in supervising and organizing campers
Creatively and enthusiastically participate in implementing day camp programs/retreats/training days
Be a positive role model for campers and fellow staff through exhibiting a supportive and jovial attitude and behaviors
Facilitate and/or participate in all activities
Secondary Duties:
Attend and participate in daily staff meetings
Enthusiastically participate in all activities
Contribute to the ongoing evaluation of camp programming
Assist in maintaining the camp facilities, grounds and equipment
Help generate enthusiasm and ideas for all camp activities and encourage all members of staff to do the same
Share in the responsibilities for advanced planning of activities, special events, and/or evening programs
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must be enrolled full-time in secondary and/or post-secondary education and must provide proof that they are returning to full-time studies in September 2026. Candidates must meet all eligibility requirements of the grant program to be considered for employment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. French language skills are an asset
Awareness of adventure and experiential education strategies
Relate well to young people
Possess strong organizational and time management skills
Possess a high level of maturity, patience, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor
Work extremely well independently and in group settings
Have a strong knowledge of the Catholic faith and its teachings
CPR, First Aid, and/or Lifeguard Certification are assets
A police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate.
