Position: Part-time Groundskeeper-Maintenance Work Location: Holy Family Retreat House, 121 Victoria St RR#1, Harrow, ON N0R 1G0 Commitment: approximately 10 hours per week. Must be available to work on weekends and/or evenings based on business needs. Hours may increase during busy periods. Compensation: Expected salary range $17.60/hour to $20.77/hour. Salary commensurate with experience and Diocesan policies. Placement within this range is commensurate with relevant industry experience, qualifications (education, skills) and/or professional designations. POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Director of Holy Family Retreat House, the Part-time Groundskeeper-Maintenance executes a variety of unskilled to semi-skilled lawn, garden and outdoor maintenance and repair work to ensure the smooth operation of the retreat house and provide a clean, orderly, and safe environment. This position may also be expected to perform some custodial duties and assist the Maintenance Caretaker. SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Performs routine and comprehensive landscaping and outdoor maintenance and repair
Mowing, fertilizing, weeding of lawns and removal of leaves and branches
Planting, watering and general care for flowers, shrubs, and other plantings
Replenishing gardens with mulch or stone
Cleaning and care for statues and monuments
Keeping all lawn, beach and parking areas clean of garbage and debris
Washes windows, doors, lawn furniture, buildings, stairs, and pathways.
Removes trash and recycling in accordance with established procedures.
Reports and responds to emergency calls for ground’s maintenance.
Responds to service requests and implements the set up and take down of outdoor furniture and equipment for a wide variety of Retreat House events.
Outdoor maintenance and repair of buildings such as eavestroughs and drainage systems, exterior lighting, fence repairs, stairs, and storage facilities.
Removal of snow and ice from sidewalks and parking areas
Performs physical motions including bending, twisting, stooping, pushing and pulling.
Climbing ladders to inspect windows, eavestroughs, roofs etc. and replace lights.
Maintenance of all outdoor tools and equipment, lawn mowers and snow removal equipment.
Perform periodic inspections of all buildings and equipment.
Notify Director of serious defects, which require emergency repair.
Perform specific duties as required on a daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual basis on all buildings and equipment.
Submit any request to the Director for purchases, or general repairs on any equipment.
Performs other associated duties as may be assigned by the Director.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of secondary school grade 12 diploma or Ontario accepted equivalent.
3-5 years of relevant experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or general outdoor maintenance.
Professional, pleasant, courteous and welcoming disposition.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Works well independently with minimum supervision and in a team.
Responds promptly to guest needs.
Good attendance and punctuality.
Must have good interpersonal communication skills.
Able to organize multiple responsibilities to meet assigned deadlines.
Basic record-keeping techniques.
Ability to follow safe practices and work methods include roper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.
Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
Knowledge of health and safety requirements and standards applicable to outdoor and facility maintenance.
Ability to ascend and descend stairs as well as safely lift and carry objects of up to 25 kg.
Professional representative of the Diocese of London at all times with an understanding of and desire to support and promote the mission of the Diocese of London and the Holy Family Retreat House.
A police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate.
