Position: Weekend Custodian - 12-month Part-time contract Work Location: Chatham Catholic Family of Parishes (St. Ursula Church - 205 Tweedsmuir Ave W., Blessed Sacrament Church - 145 Victoria Ave., St. Joseph Church - 180 Wellington St. W., Our Lady of Victory Church - 490 St. Clair St.). Commitment: Up to 16 hours per weekend, Saturdays & Sundays. Flexible availability is required, as weekend hours may vary based on events and business needs. Compensation: $18.00 to $24.00 an hour, 4% vacation pay - based on experience. Posting Date: March 2, 2026 Closing Date: March 23, 2026 Vacancy: New position – Currently available POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Pastor, the Part-Time Weekend Custodian plays an important role in supporting the life of the Chatham Catholic Family of Parishes by ensuring the timely cleaning, caretaking, and minor maintenance of each church building, as well as completing outdoor landscaping tasks as required. This position contributes to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well‑kept environment for all parishioners and visitors. SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Cleans and maintains church buildings before and after weekend Masses and parish events, including worship spaces, meeting rooms, church halls, washrooms, exterior entry areas, and other common areas.
Completes outdoor tasks such as light landscaping, sidewalk clearing, and applying de‑icing agents to entrances and emergency exits as required.
Collects garbage and recycling from weekend activities and places it in designated bins for pickup.
Performs minor repairs and basic operational checks within the church buildings during weekend hours and reports any concerns to the Pastor.
Ensures facilities are safe, accessible, and in good working order for weekend liturgies, programs, and gatherings.
Sets up and takes down halls, meeting rooms, and parish spaces for weekend ministry activities, programs, and events.
Assists parish staff and volunteers with preparation for special liturgical events when scheduled on weekends (e.g., Christmas, Easter, sacramental celebrations).
Collaborates with staff or volunteers within the Family of Parishes when required.
Other duties of similar nature as assigned by the Pastor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
Prior experience in industrial or office buildings performing cleaning and property maintenance is preferred.
Prior hands-on experience operating industrial floor polishers and/or floor cleaning machines is an asset.
Prior experience operating riding mower and/or yard maintenance equipment is an asset.
Mechanical knowledge for minor repairs (e.g., plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall, painting).
Strong applied knowledge of and experience safely handling cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Ability to maintain and follow hall/church setups both individually and with others.
Experience working with volunteers; strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Strong communication and collaboration skills with a focus on customer service; proven ability to listen to and consider suggestions and feedback graciously.
Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently with excellent attention to detail regarding cleanliness.
Creative problem solver with a positive, action-oriented attitude and high level of personal integrity.
Ability and willingness to perform manual physical labour both indoors and outdoors including the ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours based on event schedules on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and evenings (e.g., snow removal, special setups).
Access to a reliable personal vehicle for transportation between sites is required.
Knowledge of the Catholic Church and Parish operations is an asset.
Professional representative of the Diocese of London at all times with an understanding of and desire to support and promote its mission is required.
A police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate.
