POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Pastor, the Musician provides piano/organ music for weekend masses and seasonal liturgical celebrations, as well as funerals and weddings. The Musician creates a prayerful atmosphere with liturgical music and singing, which supports the scriptural message of the week, allowing the congregation to be more fully nourished.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Assist the Choir Director in the planning and implementation of all aspects of liturgical music for weekend and seasonal celebrations.
Conduct rehearsals for the weekend and seasonal choir.
Assist with recruiting new choir members and maintain a contact list of choir members.
Plan the liturgical calendar with the choir director, pastor, and the liturgy committee.
Assist families with music selection and/or play music at funerals and weddings as assigned.
May direct the choir when the Choir Director is not available.
May help supervise and direct instrumentalists, cantors and choir members.
Other duties of a similar nature as assigned by the Pastor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
A degree in music or equivalent training/background in playing piano and/or organ music.
Prior experience playing piano and/or organ for large events where attendants are singing with the music.
Working knowledge of basic sound system functions.
Exemplary communication skills (working well with adults, children, teachers, parents, etc.).
Knowledge of and the ability to play a variety of liturgical music genres – traditional to contemporary.
Knowledge of liturgical services, worship and masses in the Roman Catholic Church is an asset.
Must be available to work on weekends, evenings and statutory holidays.
A faith-based understanding of the Catholic Church, its tenets and culture.
Professional representative of the Diocese of London at all times with an understanding of and desire to support and promote the mission of the Diocese of London.
A police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London, will be required of the successful candidate.
Note: All new staff are required to complete online mandatory training available in English or French. Basic computer and reading proficiency to successfully complete this education is required.
