Position: Full-time Youth Ministry Lay Ecclesial Minister – Northern Huron Perth Catholic Family of Parishes Primary Work Location: St. Joseph Parish, 1025 Wallace Ave North, Listowel Commitment: 20 hours a week. Flexibility to work evening hours and/or on the weekend to address pastoral needs is required in this position. Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience and Diocesan policies. This position is eligible for participation in the lay staff benefits plan and pension program. Posting Date: November 27, 2025 Closing Date: December 10, 2025 POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Pastor, the Youth Ministry Lay Ecclesial Minister (LEM) plays a vital role in fostering the Catholic faith within young people. This position involves planning, coordinating, and leading various programs and activities that promote spiritual growth and community engagement. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Pastor, other staff, volunteers, and diocesan representatives to support the liturgical, sacramental, and communal life of the parish, with a strong focus on youth engagement and outreach.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Coordinate, plan, and participate in sacramental preparation and celebrations, including First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation, with a family-centered approach.
Develop and implement programs and activities to foster relationships with young people and their families, including follow-up initiatives after sacraments, youth group meetings, retreats, social activities and other family-centered faith formation opportunities.
Encourage, teach and work to provide opportunities for youth and families to learn and participate in traditions of prayer life, retreats, and evangelization.
Serve as the primary liaison for secondary school celebrations within the parish boundaries.
Plan and oversee secondary school ministry programs.
Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages spiritual growth.
Ensure ongoing compliance with Safe Environment policies, Called, Gifted and Sent policies and/or other diocesan and legislative requirements.
Recruit, train, and support volunteers for youth ministry activities.
Maintain effective communication via social media platforms and parish bulletins.
Manage program budget and maintain accurate records.
Be present at weekend liturgies as assigned.
Other duties of a similar nature as assigned by the Pastor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Certificate in Youth Ministry and/or a Bachelor of Arts or Master’s degree in Pastoral / Lay Ecclesial Ministry or in Religious Studies and/or a Certificate in Pastoral Ministry, or the willingness to obtain one.
Strong consideration given to individuals with experience working directly with youth and families, such as retired teachers or seasoned parish volunteers. Previous experience in youth ministry or parish volunteer work is an asset.
Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with a strong faith commitment and dedication to Gospel values of the Catholic Church and the Diocese of London, its tenets and culture. A Pastor’s letter of recommendation is required with application.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively.
Familiarity with social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat) and proficiency in Microsoft 365 suite of products.
Commitment to personal and spiritual growth.
Flexibility and willingness to work weekends and evenings. Working conditions will allow for flexibility in scheduling as mutually agreed upon with the Pastor.
A valid driver’s license and access to personal transportation.
Professional representative of the Diocese of London at all times with an understanding of and desire to support and promote the mission of the Diocese of London.
A police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required. Note: All new staff are required to complete online mandatory training available in English or French. Basic computer and reading proficiency to successfully complete this education is required.
