Position: Part-time Cook Primary location: Windsor Lake St. Clair Catholic Family of Parishes - St. Simon St. Jude parish rectory – 488 St. Charles Street, Belle River, ON Commitment: maximum of 10 hours per week – regular schedule of 5 hours on Tuesdays and 5 hours on Thursdays (flexibility to work varying days and/or hours based on business needs is required) Compensation: Hourly pay rate in accordance with Diocese of London policies. POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Business Manager, the Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality, nutritious meals for the Priests residing in the rectory and/or their guests. The Cook is responsible for menu planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Plan and prepare daily meals according to the dietary preferences and nutritional needs of the household.
Create weekly menus in collaboration with the occupants, ensuring variety and balanced nutrition.
Shop for groceries and ingredients, ensuring the use of fresh, quality products while ensuring budgetary considerations.
Maintain kitchen inventory and manage food stock rotation to minimize waste.
Prepare lunch and dinner meals (4 lunches and 4 dinners per week – cooking one lunch meal and one dinner meal for consumption that evening and preparation for the occupants to complete the lunch and dinner meals the following day. This would occur twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.)
Ensure cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including sanitizing surfaces and equipment.
Cater to special occasions or specific needs, including small dinner parties or events.
Prepare meals in advance for days off as requested.
Adapt recipes to accommodate food allergies, sensitivities, and/or dietary restrictions.
Stay current with food trends, nutrition, and culinary techniques.
Other duties of a similar nature as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
Proven experience as a chef or cook, preferably in a private household.
Food Handler (Safety) Certification required.
Culinary training or certification from a recognized institution is an asset.
Strong knowledge of nutrition and ability to accommodate dietary needs (e.g., high-calorie meals, gluten-free, vegetarian, etc.).
Ability to prepare a wide range of meals and cuisines.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and respect the privacy of the household.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Professional demeanor and a respectful, service-oriented approach.
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours based on needs of the priests, which may include weekends or evenings.
Professional representative of the Diocese of London at all times with an understanding of and desire to support and promote the mission of the Diocese of London.
A police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate.
Note: All new staff are required to complete on-line mandatory training available in English or French. Basic computer and reading proficiency to successfully complete this education is required.
